What Bounce Actually Does

Bounce determines how the sole of the club interacts with the turf or sand at impact. A higher bounce angle causes the leading edge to sit slightly up off the ground, helping the club glide through soft turf or sand without digging in. A lower bounce angle sits the leading edge closer to the ground, which is preferable on firm turf or tight lies where digging would cause a chunked shot.
