Best Budget Golf Club Sets Under $500

Photo by Diana Palkevic on Unsplash You don't need to spend $2,000 to get quality golf clubs. In 2025, the budget end of the golf equipment market has never been better — major brands invest genuine engineering resources into their entry-level lines because beginners are a growing market. Here are the best complete golf club sets available for under $500, each capable of carrying a beginner or high-handicapper through their first several years of the game. What's Included in a Budget Complete Set A quality budget complete set typically includes a driver, fairway wood (usually 3-wood), one or two hybrids, irons (typically 6 or 7 iron through pitching wedge), a sand wedge or gap wedge, a putter, and a stand bag. Some include a mallet-style putter; others include a blade. Everything is shaft-matched for consistent swing weight and flex across the set — something you can't replicate easily when assembling clubs piecemeal. The 2026 Masters is over, a new champion has been crowned, and Augusta National is already looking ahead. If watching this week's drama from your couch made you determined to be there in person next year, here's everything you need to know about applying for 2027 Masters tickets — including exactly when the lottery opens, how to apply, and what your realistic chances are.

When Does the 2027 Masters Lottery Open?

The Masters ticket lottery traditionally opens on June 1 each year for the following April's tournament. The 2027 Masters lottery will open approximately June 1, 2026 and close approximately June 20, 2026. Mark your calendar now — June 1 — and set a reminder. The application window is only about three weeks long and Augusta National does not extend it or accept late applications under any circumstances.

Where to Apply

Applications are available exclusively at tickets.masters.com. You'll need to create an account if you don't already have one. Use your permanent residential address — this is verified, and using a temporary or business address will disqualify your application. Only one application per household is permitted.

What You're Actually Applying For

The lottery gives winners the opportunity to purchase tickets — not the tickets themselves. If selected, you'll receive an email in late July notifying you of your win and providing a payment deadline, typically in August. Tickets are then mailed in March before the tournament.

You can apply for practice round tickets (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) at up to four per day, and tournament round tickets (Thursday through Sunday) at up to two per day. However, successful applicants win tickets for only one day, regardless of how many days they applied for.

2026 Ticket Prices for Reference

Prices for 2027 have not been announced yet, but based on recent trends: practice round tickets ran $125 for Monday and Tuesday, $150 for Wednesday, and tournament round tickets were $160 per day in 2026. Expect modest increases year over year. The four-day series badge for established patrons cost $525 in 2026, up $75 from the prior year.

Your Odds: Honest Assessment

The odds of winning a single tournament-round ticket through the lottery are approximately 1 in 200, or about 0.55%. Practice round odds are somewhat better but the exact figure is not disclosed. Augusta National never reveals how many tickets are available through the lottery system. At these odds, applying every year for 10 years gives you roughly a 5% cumulative chance of winning at least once — low, but not zero.

Tips for Your Application

  • Apply the moment the lottery opens on June 1. There is no advantage to applying early vs. late within the window — it's a random draw — but don't risk forgetting and missing the deadline
  • Apply for every day. You can only win one day, but applying for more days doesn't hurt your chances for any individual day and gives you more opportunities to be selected
  • Make sure your account information is accurate. Your permanent address must be current and verifiable. Discrepancies can result in disqualification
  • Check your email in late July. Winners are notified by email and have a specific deadline to pay. Missing the payment deadline means forfeiting your spot

If You Don't Win

Try again next year. Many Masters attendees applied for a decade or more before being selected. The lottery is genuinely random — there's no preference for previous applicants or any way to improve your individual odds beyond applying consistently each June. The Masters experience is worth the patience.

The Practice Round Alternative

If tournament round odds feel discouraging, practice rounds are a meaningful consolation. Practice round tickets are easier to win in the lottery and provide a genuine Augusta National experience — the course, the azaleas, the atmosphere, watching the world's best players prepare. Many attendees describe their practice round experience as preferable to tournament rounds because the course is more accessible and the pace more relaxed.

Start Planning Now

June 1 is your date. Tickets.masters.com is your destination. Set your reminder, create your account if you have not already, and be ready. The 2027 Masters at Augusta National is less than a year away, and the lottery window is your best legitimate path to being there. Don't miss it.
